Memorial Description
Roll of Honour 2 feet 7 inches high x 3 feet 5 inches long behind glass in a frame 3 feet 2 inches high x 4 feet wide. It depicts a classical column with double pillars to the left and a single pillar to the right.
In the space above the double pillars are the dates “4th August 1914 to 31st December 1916”. To the left is depicted Britannia, standing with her hand resting on a sword, the Union flag at her feet. She looks towards the names, which are in three columns.
At the bottom is another panel bearing the details of “Awards for Special Services”.

The memorial was formally handed over to the Board of Directors at the unveiling ceremony.
Notes
1. According to Shields Daily News 26/02/1921, 150 employees had joined up, of whom 14 had died. There are about 400 employees. There are some discrepancies with the information on this memorial, which leads to the suspicion that there might be two, one for the Cabinet Works, and one for the Clothing Factory. Alternatively, since this memorial twice mentions the dates up to 31st December 1916, another similar memorial might cover the whole or part of the rest of the war. The whereabouts of such another memorial are unknown.
