Memorial Description

Roll of Honour on pre-printed form set in a narrow frame, 23 inches high x 18 inches wide.. At centre top is a shield with the St.George’s cross with a scroll bearing the quotation from Psalm 91. The form is divided into three pre-printed columns . The first contains the names, the centre column has the rank, the third is the sphere of service. At the bottom is a printed prayer.

O Lord of Hosts, stretch forth Thine arms to strengthen and protect / our loved ones on land or sea or in the air. Help us and them to see, / through all the clouds of war, the vision of Thy peace for which we strive. / Grant to us all self-control and steady purpose that the Kingdom which is not / of this world may be established in the hearts of men everywhere, through / Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Notes

1. Watergate Wesleyan Methodist Church closed in 1970. The memorial was moved to Consett Road Primitive Methodist Church at Castleside which closed in the 1990s. It is now in North of England Open Air Museum, Beamish.
